Couldn't see one so here it is...........

The Ashes has just started and Test Match Special is on the radio in the office. Lets hope it's as thrilling as the last Ashes series in the UK 4 years ago.

I'm going for England to win 2-1!

They'd be stupid if they did. It is the England & Wales Cricket Team after all.
Although as the Wales part keeps being dropped by the media, along with them questioning why an Ashes Test Match is being played in a foreign country, I can see why some would.

Very close call i think, England to win in Cardiff, Aussies at Lords and after that i think you could throw a blanket over them. Doing Ok at he start 18-0

Check the cyclists getting the freeview! Ground very quiet, maybe the ale not kicked into the Barmy Army yet!

Right. If England and Wales win the first test, it will set us in good stead. If we draw in Cardiff that will embolden the convicts as they will see that as getting over the banana skin (because they manage to beat even us in the arrogance stakes) and may push on and beat us.

Look to be going okay at the moment. I would say a really good first session for us would be to get through it with our openers still in - who then push on to score 70+ without loss of a wicket by the middle of the after lunch session.

And the first Wicket goes down. Cook caught.

Bugger!

Pains me to say it, but the men in the baggy green caps are playing very, very well and would appear to have the upper hand in this session.

So - given how poorly the day has started - what do we need to see from England in the next session?

I am making no predictions, having proven how bloody cack-handed I am.

Nice to see Colly and KP both get their fifties in the first test.

Although that is because of the bone captaining of Ponting, but hey - thats a bonus for us.

Time for summation at Tea
England 194-3

Peitersen: 52
Collingwood: 50

The game is slowly truckling along, though England do appear to be finding their stride.

. O M R W
M Johnson 13.0 2 45 2
Hilfenhaus 12.0 3 27 1
Siddle 15.0 2 52 0
Hauritz 14.0 1 41 0
M Clarke 5.0 0 20 0

Yes. I have that as one session to Oz, one session for us. I assume ponting will not go back to hauritz after tea, and try something else.

I think he will tbh, the moisture will pick up in the cooler evening air, so will suit the seamers more.

He needs to get the initiative back, but with Pietersen and Collingwood at the crease, we have flair and stability, so should hold them off:

Possible prediction for stumps England 280-300 for 3

I think I would probably try Clark and Johnson for most of the session, see whether they can invite anything from colly and KP. But then, I am not an international cricket captain, so my view is meaningless.

Still, after my efforts earlier, I can't believe you have gone for a prediction. From here on in it's YOUR fault.
