America - its all a bit odd...

The Poofter Jarheads, stopping at a mere 200 rounds.... that is how poor people fight. Such restraint is unbecoming.
I mention JAG as a last resort, one episode had a cobra/ viper pilot hose down armed farmer in barn hostage episode.
Granted JAG made soldier soldier look like GoPro faithful

There is no such thing as overkill?;)

Suddenly remembered an incident from NI many years ago, when a Para, who was a bit p1ssed off at a stalemate in a shoot out went and put an anti-tank round into a house. Paddy exited at warp speed. Too bad it was only a training round, ie no live warhead.

Not quite . 1979. It was at Kinawly in Fermanagh and they were Marines not Paras. No IRA involvement

The story

Lads were bored so one of the NCOs suggested some training on the 84mm. He said to one of the guys “go and draw a practice round for the Charlie G” the lad does what he is told.

Lesson begins.

“LOAD”

They load

“FIRE”

They fire

“BANG, WHOOSH, CRASH - as the round hits a building in the village IIRC it was the church - ****”

Of course we all know now that what the NCO should have said was “go and draw a DRILL round for the Charlie G” Because dear reader PRACTICE rounds are the ones used to disrupt IEDs and they go BANG, WHOOSH...

In an effort to get back to the OP's intention.

One thing I always found odd about America was that every shower head I ever used was fixed. Not once have i seen a removable shower head which you can take down to shower your jacksie and bollox.

I'm sure they must have them but I never saw one.

And I never saw an electrical socket that didn't spark when you unplugged a high wattage device (kettle, iron etc).

You know that tumble-weed stuff that looks all flimsy when to see it on the telly? Well when you hit it at 85mph as it crosses the Interstate Highway 80 in Nevada it don’t half make a racket. I thought my wife was going to sh1t herself.

Me sir, me, I have one. I know what you mean though as builder finished homes come with fixed heads and it requires an extortionate payment to a plumbist to have a euro-style shower fitted.

Arcing. Very common and the cause of many a house fire especially if a wire connected to the rear of a plug socket to the terminal is loose as that is where the arc will happen.

When I lived up in the cold northeast I was guaranteed to see a house fire on the telly news on thursday, friday and saturday evenings. The cause was invariably a faulty gas appliance as they spark up more often in the colder weather. The reason: In the UK it took me 12 months and a half dozen exams to get my gas certification, CORGI at the time, in the US it is a two day course. I have yet to see a plumber doing gas work use a manometer, or even know what a manometer is when working with gas - I know this for a fact. Further, unlike europe where gas carrying pipes are required to be readily accessible for visual inspection in the US they are neatly tucked away behind plasterboard - so that nice pinhole leak can build up in the wall cavity for a while before final ignition.

I'm in America right now for the first time. I'm staying with friends who live in Monroe, WA. I went into a Fred Meyer supermarket today to find you can buy high end jewellery and diamonds next to the Starbucks.

Mind blown.

Wait until you go in a shop that sells British food and see a $3 curlywurley.

You could also buy guns in a Fred Meyer till last year....you know, as part of your daily grocery shopping.

I’m in Nevada at the moment and found out last night that if you go to a casino and drop five dollars in a slot machine, you just have to push the button every ten minutes or so as the waitress goes by to be able to drink Moscow Mules all night for free.

Oh my aching head...

Ahhh...the bliss of all the recycled air and 24x7 drinks. I hate that place. Still have bad mems (or not) from my 21st bday when my idiot "friends" made me drink those many shots for the occasion. If I lived there, I would have been dead by now!

Forgot to add, I don't what the temp is there right now but hangovers doubly suck when it's boiling outside.
