Alt + Tab flicker problem.

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. If I'm in a full screen app, such as a game, but a message pops up that requires an Alt + Tab to switch to, I can't.

The box just flickers momentarily and disappears. Google searches brought up solutions which haven't worked, anyone had this?

If so how did you resolve it?
  2. Have you tried Ctrl+Alt+Del, then selecting Task Manager?
  3. I see what you're saying, this would minimise the full screen app, much as Windows Key + Tab would, but I was more concerned with being able to toggle between overlays than reduce to desktop. Thanks anyway. When I first started reading your reply I thought you were going to say Alt + F4....

what OS? could be a graphics driver issue.
  5. Yeah I wondered that. Windoze 7. Haven't done an ATI driver update for a while though, so strange it should start to play up.
  6. I always use the Task Manager route when this issue comes up - if you click on its Applications tab it has a nice selectable list of everything that's running so you just click on the title of the hidden pop-up and away you go!
  7. Ok, except it's not the porn type pop ups you had problems with ( although pesky!) it's specifically Steam contacts trying to speak/invite to games.
  8. Yeah, Steam is what usually does it on my PC too... Pile of crap, it is!

probably linked in to flash or java if you have other things running as well like a browser the the browser flash and windows flash can crash, chrome is a bugger for it.
  10. I'll have another look tomorrow. Worst case scenario I'll reinstall some drivers and or Windoze.

    Thanks anyway muckers.
  11. Get yourself the latest ATI driver while you're at it. It seems to be quite stable, no problems at all since I installed it.

  12. Will do chief, thanks.

Are you in a Steam game when you get Steam pop-ups? If so, Shift-Tab brings up the Steam in-game menu. You can access chats, browser, etc without messing the game window about.
