All medical chat and queries in here. Please don't start a new one for every single medical question.

I Appreciate it either way Mate I just want to have a estimate date so at least I can know weather to go back on site in the meantime if it’s going to be a long process but thanks for looking into it seems you will know more then what the csm currently know

sudden update -it appears that Capita are waiting for the MoD to make a decision on when testing is going to resume.

So the answer is "there is currently no answer"

other answers may be available

when you consider this site allows people to use it for free, threads on medicals are answered by volunteers (other users) one thread for all medical matters makes life a lot easier for those answering the questions as well as those looking for a single point of contact.
If you are terribly upset about this arrangement then please contact the site owners or make your own site.

I do have a contact in "the system" who may be able to come up with some info on this but not for a few days. wait out
Absolutely no offence intended with my suggestion at all. This is a great site full of very useful information. If your contact can give any heads up at all I am sure we would all be really grateful to know if there is anything that we could/should be doing to help ourselves and others. Many thanks, I wait.......

Hi Ben, Im afraid I couldnt help more than I will now but it sounds a bit fishy. I had about a 9 year gap in my medical records from Ireland and it was no problem back in 2016. They are desperate for blokes now and ive just been through the recruitment process again and it was smooth(er) than before. Apply mate and go for it.
Hi mate, would you mind sending me a PM? I have a couple of questions about your application with your missing medical records.

Sorry I couldn't find a clear answer as it was all about reconstruction, the JSP 950 says a complete tear means you'd be unfit but not a partial tear.
partial tears may be allowable. Only way to find out is to apply and see what exactly is stated in your records. It may need a specialist assessment which can delay things as well

Hello all. I have decided to rejoin as a reserve soldier and I'm a little confused with the medical process now capita has took over. I was last in reserved in 2011.

I have a triage call on Monday 20th July. (New to me) but looking through forums I can't grasp the process now.

So what is this triage all about? I done a medical questionnaire online (4 basic questions) and passed that. Now the triage and then.... I'm confused.... do capita ask my GP for records or is that only if something comes up on the triage call?

Any help and advice would be appreciated. The old process I was given a big medical questionnaire to complete, pass to my GP for him to countersign and forward to the Army. Looks messy now.
Hi Mate,

Triage call essentially goes over everything that you covered in your medical form and occasionally clarifies. This usually results in a pass, deferral pending medical record or can result in denied (although I'm led to believe they nearly always request a copy of your records for clarification).

Following that you will be sent a copy of an authorisation form for your doctors to release your medical forms, once they have returned those you can expect a couple of weeks wait for them to review and make their decision.

Hi all,

I applied to be an Officer more than 18 months ago and the entire process has been a shambles. I initially went for my medical in May 2019. I passed all physical aspects with flying colours but was told that some medical information appeared to be missing. Once I had this sent from my Doc in Ireland I was told that I had failed. Once I went through the appeals process right up to (Level 1b) and having to provide 3 letters from Pillars of the Community I was finally told I was successful and could go to the next stage even though there were some concerns.

This was March 2020. I was told I'd have to do another medical because they are only valid for a year and time was nearly up. Of course this was cancel due to covid. Having heard nothing for ages from any one I check my Portal which has now been updated again to say I am deferred again. Calling the recruiters I am told I was sent a medical letter which they can't talk about because they aren't medically trained. I did not receive this letter so I requested a new one which I also have not received. They have my correct address as well. It is almost impossible to get through to my Candidate Support Manager in general and now she is on holiday. I can't through to the general recruiters. Sorry about all the context. I have no idea why I have been deferred and no idea what to do any more.

Does anybody know what to do?
Are medicals even starting running with covid ongoing?
Is everyone marked as deferred due to covid?
Should I just join the navy and get a tan?

I am due to start basic in a few weeks, I went for a run last weekend and must’ve done my knee(don’t think it’s too serious, pain there but no swelling). What will happen if my knee doesn’t recover in time? I am going to see a doctor this week to get it checked up on.
cheers

Yeah the advice would be to see the doc, but id wait to see if it goes after a few days rest. Seeing the doc will put it on your records, which if not stated to the army may go south fast. They may want to push you back mate so I guess whatever is more important to you.

Why not wait and see how you feel and if its still jacked see the doc and speak with your CSM

It hasn’t gone anywhere and I’ve been resting it, I think it might be a meniscus tear from the research I’ve done. To say I’m gutted is an understatement. I am going to speak to my CSM on Monday and see what he says. I have handed my notice in at my job and everything.

getting it fixed is way more important than trying to hide it (as suggested by another poster)
turning up with an injury (and assuming you can keep it hidden long enough) will only create a good chance* of making it worse possibly making you permanently unfit.

Speak to your CSM and see a GP if you can, failing that declare it on arrival at basic.

think about the long term, not the short term of just getting into training - you want to give yourself a good chance of completing it

*almost certainly

Yeah, thanks for the reply. I will speak to him tomorrow. Just hope it isn’t a recurring injury and I can just delay my start. Any idea how long I can delay it for if possible?

They usually do 3 or 6 month delays while they would ask for a note from your doctor saying your knee is fine and possibly and excercise diary outlining what excercise you had done.

Yeah I had to do that two year ago when I broke my finger. Absolutely zero luck

Any advice... my son passed his assessment 2 weeks ago, with a B. His medical was only conditional pass as they want a second opinion in his adhd? He was told to wait for a call from an occupational therapist? He was diagnosed 8 years ago, with meds to take if he felt the need.... he took them for a week and has never needed them! Any idea how long the wait is for this call? His csm is no help at all and he’s feeling a little peed off to say the least

how long? nobody knows. There is a massive backlog of work thanks to Covid-19, some things took long enough beforehand. With a history of ADHD diagnosed (often misdiagnosed - everyone seems to be happy to get the diagnosis for kids not realising the impact it can have later if it isn't actually ADHD) and a prescription for medication, the MoD is going to be taking extra care (to protect the MoD and your son)

Another factor is not if he took the medication or not but whether the doctor continued to prescribe them.

No further prescriptions.the medic stated their only concern was that he took himself off, but they were only ever given to him to take care f he felt the need? They were a low dosage that never did a lot! This was when he was 17.... his main problems were at school and because he had left, he felt being out of the school environment, he didn’t need them!..... basically he was a little shit at school and this was their answer!.... he’s now 25 with no health concerns....

Sounds a bit mommy cuddled. At 25 he should be on here himself. Im sure it'll be fine and he will be allowed in. I had people in my training with ADHD diagnosis', good lads and good workers albeit it seems ADHD and Personal Admin ( looking after yourself ) don't seem to line up well.
