"Voulez-vous acheter Rafale?"

"Oui, mon ami"

....

"Wo ist der Vertrag für die Flugzeuge? Weißt du was? Sie können es rammen, wir kaufen das F-35"

Ah, the benefits of having two main languages (other two don't count), and the associated mindsets.

Did you see that when the news broke, Macron uninvited the Swiss President, Guy Parmelin, from a forthcoming visit?

Indeed I did. How ungracious of him.

Any chance of the Germans kicking him in the nuts in the near term? That would be splendid.

Maybe the RN could bring forward the build of HMS Agincourt? Just weld a couple bits of steel together in Barrow and say "We are pleased to announce the start of construction of HMS Agincourt"

"Monsieur Macron there are thousands of immigrants who keep arriving at Calais. They do not want to stay in France but are determined to travel to the UK by whatever means possible.

We have just laughed like a drain at your loss of a multi billion pound sub contract but we'd now like you to help us by preventing those immigrants from crossing the Channel even though our loss is your gain. What do you say?"

Mwahahahahahaaaaaaa...

Alternatively,

You have done nothing but show contempt for the plight of the refugees leaving your northern shores for the UK, paid mere lip service to preventing them from attempting the hazardous journey in flimsy inflatable boats and your obligation to them as refugees and asylum seekers. Yet you expect that you receive recognition on the international stage as a major defence player. All the while, stringing along our Australian partners for five years. Now the sky is black with the wings of chickens home to roost. Your future participation in world defence issues will be predicated on your response to this perceived crisis, which is of your own making.

Bon chance!

I'm sure the immigrants will be very grateful for you moral support. Unfortunately realpolitik doesn't work like that.
