A highly controversial crackdown on immigrants accused of abusing welfare handouts is to be unveiled by Home Secretary Alan Johnson this week.

He plans to ban wives brought here, mainly from India and Pakistan, from receiving child benefit and a wide range of other state aid unless they learn English, support British values and do voluntary work in the community.

    Hardly controversial though...
  2. Oh no he hasn't! He says that he has no grounds to stop the extradition of the sad man who hacked into American defence computer systems.

The 'offence' was committed here and the perpetrator should be tried here.

This one-sided and unjust treaty should be rescinded as soon as we have a change of government.
  3. ..And the first one to launch a legal challenge(funded by the taxpayer,of course) will instantly result in the fastest back-pedalling in history!
  4. Agree that the case should be heard here, but no British government will ever have the courage to de-ratify this 'treaty',whatever happens.
  5. The damage was done to an American defence computer, I would argue that the 'offence' (are we unsure if hacking is actually a crime?) was committed in America.

I look forward to the British residents of the Dordogne, Provence and Tuscany being tested on their fluency in French and Italian.

I'd imagine their commitment to doing voluntary work would be similarly checked on a regular basis.
  7. Are said residents claiming welfare handouts?... Commiting crime? Attempting to change French culture? Ignoring French Laws? Threatening to blow themselves up on The Paris Metro? Jumping to the front of the social housing queues? Getting French schoolgirls hooked on drugs?

    Nope... thought not.

Are any of those in msr's link doing the same? Entirely possibly but unlikely.

You think that brides brought from abroad threaten to blow people up, ignore laws and get people hooked on drugs?
  9. Thats France's and Italy's problem not ours.
