AJAX - the ‘NOT the CR2 upgrade’ thread

!!

Bugger the extravagant, undeserved bonuses, it is his continued employment that should be drawn into question !!

"Colonel Richard Kemp, an ex-infantry Commander, told the paper: 'Bonuses for public sector employees in the MoD should only be given out sparingly, especially as they're usually reserved for high-level civil servants.

'They should only be used to recognise contributions above and beyond the contractual remit of the individual".

What . . . did Sir Simon Bollom, 61, head of defence equipment and support at the Ministry of Defence (MoD), answer his telephone on a Sunday ?!
If you have ever worked at the DE&S and Defence Digital you will soon realise that the Senior Civil Servants are shocking. I actively dissuade my current boss from hiring them as they are generally useless

Torygraph reporting an extra £8 billion to be spent on “tanks” for the Army. Does this mean more CR3 and Boxer? Implications for Ajax? Again very little said about Royal Artillery other than “deep strike”.

More Boxer.

Ajax? Hm…

That's the truth of it though isn't it? This is just another one of those "We know things are terrible at the moment but they will be so much better in 5 - 10 years time, (when I am a retired pundit being interviewed on TV explaining how terrible the Army is)" exercises,

Lovely brochure though.

Annoyingly, I only caught the last part of the announcement in the HoC, but I was pleased and surprised at the SS's "robust" response when questioned about AJAX . . . independent review . . . people to be held to account . . . legal action/repercussions ;) .

Edited to add . . .

I understand that he has already had the Army top brass in his office for an interview without tea or coffee (pink wafers are deffo off the menu) for a right beasting regarding the cluster that is AJAX and other legal matters.

Can anyone give an update on the current state of play? Is cancellation a realistic option (rather than a Cv90 fanboys' rallying cry)? Or is there a plan to muddle through and complete the full order?

Informed answers only please. On second thoughts, this is Arrse so I'm sure if you don't know the answer, you'll spout some made up shite anyway.

The statement by Wallace that he's speeding up the Boxer build rate and the Chally 3 upgrade might suggest that Ajax being ready by 2030 is dubious?

Oo! Did someone say CV90?

It's like Viagra, you know...

Warrior becoming a Phoenix rising from Ajax’s ashes. Would seem logical to reinstate Warriors upgrade, as most of the development was done.
I believe the Yanks were quite impressed with Warrior carries one more trog is also faster and more manoeuvrable than their Bradley.

Not sure, soundings from yesterday seemed to indicate we are still saying farewell to Warrior. It's a quality wagon though, defintely one of the best of its generation (lack of stabilisation notwithstanding).

With regard to the new Melange Brigade in Germany all reports saying Armoured ish, Challys and Boxer. But from what I understand is that inhouse OAs have said, very vehemently, that it should not be used in a IFV role otherwise it will get a spanking. So the need for a heavy IFV remains

Definitley a melange, a soufflé would be expected to rise to the occasion, whilst a melange won't (depending on the ingredients)
