Para Regt to be disbanded, Para Regt to stop jump training, Para Regt to have Myleene Klass as Colonel-in-Chief...these stories come out all the time, do you have a link, preferably from somewhere more credible than the Sunday Mirror?

Any Government would have to be utterly crazy to do it. The Paras are one of the few capbadges who have no problems attracting potential recruits and they consistently turn out superb soldiers. I very much doubt it'll happen.

Why shouldn't they disband? Or at least stop Para training, SUEZ was the last time they dropped and theres no way they will be used as Parachute troops any time soon.
Helicopters are exclusivley used. I get the point of P company training but not parachutes. Its a bit like Cavalry types training on horses but then going to war in Tanks!

Oooo can we have her as ours, we ship thing, and then I could escort her around the ship. See the golden rivet etc.

I have about as much chance of that than the Paras going.

While you're at it you could stop them training to fight a conventional enemy as well. I mean, we're never going to have to fight anyone except Taliban ever again, right?

Oh, and Guns: if you ever do find yourself showing Miss Klass around your fine ship, read up on astronomy first, apparently she's quite into it. ;)

Why not disband RM then? They're not likely to land anytime soon by Rigid Raider on Afghan Shores considering there aren't any? What about tankies? C2 isn't going to be used in the foreseeable future? What about our nuclear deterrent? Shall we rid ourselves of that? We're hardly going to drop a bomb soon are we?

I believe that was first thought of after the heavy losses in Crete.

Yeh and what about the RAF. The battle of Britain was an awfully long time ago :D

I'm the first to admit that a large scale drop isn't really needed any time soon.

However.

Never say never.

Better to have the capability and not need it then to not have the capability and need it!

Frankly we should get rid of the entire Army, we could replace it with the Royal Legal & Ambulance Chasing (Airmobile) Corps. The ability to deliver a devastating writ anywhere in the world would be a great asset.

If only this attitude was applied to the reserve.
