Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Has anybody out there got any idea where I can get my hands on AFV Recognition kit, I run an ACF unit and the cadets are interested in learning AFV Recognition.

Whatever you do - don't ask the US Air Force.
  3. might be a good idea to ask them as they used are boys as target practice so well
  4. Im an All Arms AFV Instructor to specialised level, pm me for details, I have the latest disk.
  5. i also have an interesting collection in early 20th century postcards if u want to pop round
  6. Curious

Cant ever remember seeing AFV recognition in the APC sylabus, is it 3 star? 4 Star maybe?
If you have time to teach AFV recognition, I can only presume you have covered your APC subjects first, interest periods are great, I'm all for it, but if it takes about 15 months to cover just 2 Star, where do you slip it in?
  7. empty eye, my friend you are correct it is not in the APC syllabus, but with a well structured training programme, i manage to slot 1-1.5 hours a month, to interest periods. Each year we run an inter det skills comp, based on syllabus and a little on non-syllabus military knowledge, as our Coy is 70/30 split to RTR and PWRR , we aim to chuck in AFV recognition and modern weapons, nothing too intense, just basic description and country of origin. The cadets enjoy it and after all that is what we are there for, so they get a interesting and enjoyable time. What are your views on Basic ?, the difference in age is not just a number?, if you know what i mean, there is a vast diffence in confidence.
