Niger army accused of executing over 70 civilians, probe says
Extract:

Soldiers in Niger executed dozens of civilians during the counterinsurgency campaign against jihadists earlier this year, a probe has reported.

The country has suffered years of conflict with Islamic militants operating in the Sahel, with thousands of soldiers and civilians killed to date.

“There have indeed been executions of unarmed civilians and the mission discovered at least 71 bodies in six mass graves,” said Abdoulaye Seydou, the president of the Pan-African Network for Peace, Democracy and Development, which participated in the probe, on Friday

The National Commission for Human Rights was investigating reports that 102 civilians had gone missing in the Inates zone in the western Tillaberi region between March 27 and April 2 after an army operation.

They hold elections in Africa?

They call them "Kooz", its a silent "z". As in "there was a kooz in Mali last week". It is a local version of what we in europe call an election and based more on the premise of agreeing that the big b'stard whose blokes are now running the TV and radio stations, and seem to have moved effortlessly into all the public buildings should be running the show. At least until the next kooz happens and newer management takes over.

These were running around Mali, the two on the right look a tad "Merican", or at least merican influenced to me (no one does shades like a merican - second one in has a gat under his shirt.

Adolf Hitler Uunona, 54, a politician of the ruling SWAPO party was last week elected local government councillor for Ompundja constituency in northern Namibia, with 85% of the ballots cast.

The 54-year-old told Germany's BILD newspaper his father had given him the name likely without having an idea of what it represents.
