Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I might be going to Camp Bastion shortly as a civvie contractor.
Anybody got any advice on kit to take out :?:
  2. A platoon of ghurka's. Right handy in a row they are..
  3. Loadsa booze and some british military kit and dont forget to pick up a few bits of brass for souveniers, the RMPs will love you for it :D
  4. How much do they weight? as i dont want to go over my baggage allowance.
  5. Depending on your job/role, you might want to invest in a decent set of walking boots/trainers.
Again, role dependent, a daysack with a camelback (not sure on the spelling) pocket on the inside, depending on how acclimatised to the heat, and if you're going to be lugging other bits and bobs around with you.

Personal favourite is the Sony PRS-505 (electronic book), you can fit thousands of books into the same space as your copy of FHM, top bit of kit, albeit it a little expensive. Obviously, you'll have considered things like a hard-drive full of films/porn to go with your laptop.

Just my two cents worth :)
  6. Most of them I know are too busy talking on their mobiles.
  7. IPOD
    LAPTOP PC (DVD capable)
    Digital camera
8GB Flashdrive (keep your porn on this instead of the pc's hard drive - or so i'm told)

Loose, baggy clothes and some warm kit

Buy loads of stuff that you think you might need for day to day use. shower gel, razor blades, toothpaste etc. Then put it into packets so your friends and family can post it to you. Not heavier than 2kg, no aerosols, batteries or anything that can be easily damaged and leak into the aircraft's cargo / baggage.

    Have a good one !

Is that all? I managed double that amount....
  9. Good for you !
  10. a leatherman to fix anything and everything!
  11. life insurance
  12. bastion is quite comfortable, you shouldn't need loads of kit!

i'd say ipod or laptop or dvd player

    decent boots or shoes
