Afghan kids on opium

There were an awful lot of young soviet conscripts on the stuff (and giving away their weapons to pay for it) during their occupation. Kind of self-defeating.

In terms of Afghan children being on smack, this is very much how UK drugs dealers would like things to work. That's an extra few years addiction and profits in the bag.

Maybe they're not as ignorant as is thought... with all that's going on around them perhaps it's their way of helping their kids deal with it. Sad though

And has been for centuries. In Iran through to the NW frontier the words for opium and medicine are the same. Given the rates of illiteracy, how would they know they are addicted if they are never without it? And opium does have medicinal qualities.

That said, seeing bairns chugging down oily opium smoke is not nice.
