Advice please - SOS gifts for squaddies in AFG

#1
At my place of work in Worcester, there's a big bin collecting morale boosters for troops in AFG.

"Aha!" I thought - equal opps head on: "I'll buy a grot mag for the guys (and gay gals?) and a copy of Cosmo or some such for the remainder of the population".

Then I noticed the small print that says anything faintly porn-like will be filtered out and destroyed en route (presumably by being thumbed into oblivion by some RAF Snowdropn JNCO . . . )

Point is -

a. I want to know what gifts would likely be best appreciated out there (any kind of treat), and

b. Which magazines are currently the favoured guys/gals reading/ogling material ?.

Then I can badger my family, colleagues and friends the more effectively.

Over to you.

Have a look at this SOS page, its got a couple of posters listing suitable items. I`ve been told recently that boot laces are particularly needed (150-160cm).
Feck me - I thought it was just helis, armour, more troops and DfID support they were short of out there . . . :x

It does seem sad doesn`t it, the local SOS lady said she`s been asked for them as some of the lads are having to use bits of wire when their laces break and they can`t get replacements for them from stores.

Bump

So far all the suggestions i've had are haribo and laces

The key question, however, is "Which - if any - magazines would be most appreciated?"

I can't believe there is a shortage of green string / paracord.

can someone point me in the direction of somewhere to get the names and address of some guys and girls to send some parcles to.
I have heard that you cant just address them to A Soldier anymore and I would like to start sending out some parcles, I have no connections to any of the armed forces so dont really know where to start looking.
Im mainly looking to send Jerky, sweets and it seems boot laces but any suggesting would be good.
And without taking the piss to much can you tell me, would there be a call for vegetarian snacks, I have no idea but plenty to send if they would be welcomed.

I have noticed since I joined a few weeks ago but no harm trying, just thought I would ask, might need to start trying to bribe people by offering free jerky but will hold off on that for a while and see if I can find someone serving to post it to

My plan is to make up 1/2 doen boxes and take them to my SOS rep but include a letter saying I would like to ship direct so anyone who wants a box let me hav a name and adderss and tell me what they really want.
Seems the best way to get started

How many times have i got to ask before somone tells me

WHAT MAGAZINES ARE BEST APPRECIATED BY SQUADDIES IN AFGHANISTAN?

I can get all the generic answers listed above from the SOS website - I was really, really hoping for something a little bit moire detailed . . .

Just take them to your SOS rep or get them to collect and be happy with that. No one on here or elsewhere is likely to give you a name or address of any member of the armed forces so you can ship them direct.

Stonker, the information about mags is avoid any porn/lads/top shelf type.

Just about anything non-pornographic, even comics and womens mags for the ladettes whatever you send will be well read by everyone anyway.

Look - I am an old non-PC git, whose 1970s youth was fuelled by Knave, Mayfair and Forum (at the then-non-pornographic end of the reading scale).

I've had more than my fair share of runs-in with the fun police in recent years, so - tell me: according to current rules, where does porn start? Nuts ? FHM? Mens Health? GQ? Cosmo? Or wot?

It's not a matter of me exercising my innate bad taste.I just want to know - before I go and spend my pension - what will get past the filtration machine, and actually reach the boys'n'girls, and get read (or at least enthusiastically viewed  . ) by many in the front line, and not a few shiny-arrse wasters in the rear?

So - wot are the top titles?
