Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Wanted to post this here as you are the guys out on the ground everyday using the kit.

Quite simply are the new ESS issue sunglasses any good or am i better off buying my own wileys?
  2. Issue ones are excellent and look quite cool. They also stop stuff - they'll save your eyes!
  3. Stick with the ESS ones. You will be issued wrap arounds and goggles. Both come with clear, yellow and grey lenses.
  4. Have they stopped issuing those horrible tortoiseshell c1970's style ones with the yellow lenses which always gave me a headache then?
  5. Yep, the new ones are excellent bits of kit.
The old ones were only any good for dodgy fancy dress parties :D

The new issued ones also give ballistic protection etc. If you wear wileys, ypu aint covered for compensation etc, usual army regs etc. The only problem i found with them is that they can break apart sometimes...
  7. Ohh and several units get upset with non issuse sunglasses so save your money .
