A guy who is in his last year of service was talking about how he cant do the courses he wants for resettlement because of the new "capped actuals" allowance rule. As i understand it, you are given a grant of a little over 500 quid for a course. In the past, people have used their daily allowances to top up the amount they were spending on a course to be able to do something useful. These days 500 quid wont buy you 2 days training - so how are we going to make up the difference? Is it time for the grant to be increased to a realistic level - or have the MOD ignored the fact that its a pittance because they knew people were spending their allowances on training? Any thoughts?
