help. How long can you be in acting rank before been given substansive?
Generally, until you are old enough, qualified enough or have enough time in your substantive rank to qualify for promotion.
Although, it depends on which rank you are Acting in.
In our Corps, you generally spend around 6 months in acting rank once promoted, and the substantive rank is dependent on continued recommendation for promotion. I believe the CO has to return a letter to Records prior to getting the sub rank.
It as dependant on wich corps you serve in. For instance I know the Royal Artillery have no acting rank, once promoted you are substansive with immediate effect. Maybe you are not as good as you think you are....
In my regiment we never acted it was always for real
