Acceptable convictions/cautions

Murder. Would be a bit hypocritical to say no, wouldn't it

In all seriousness, anything which calls someone's integrity or reliability into doubt, or anything excessively violent should be a no. Minor offences as a result of a wayward youth would be acceptable; the army has straightened plenty of people out over the years.

We'd be well short of blokes if that were the case.

I'm thinking more along the line of drunk and disorderly, indecent exposure/public indecency would be acceptable. (The swamping on your oppo or shaggin in public variety not 'hanging out' at the local play school.)

We have enough alcoholics and perverts already thank you

Any conviction where the honesty of the individual is brought into question, ie stealing in any form.
Rape or peado actions go without saying as a no no.
Bestiality is a broad question to answer, as we have all been with the odd dog/pig, and what would the welsh/jock regts do if that was outlawed?

Basically anything that would effect the working relationship within a group of tight bonded people.

You can never have enough alcoholics - so much fun in the morning when someone's in a worse state than yourself. As for perverts, that's just too much of a broad category to deal with in a single sitting.

That's a pretty sensible answer - May I remind you this is the NAAFI :)

I disagree, I believe it shows you are willing to see something through to the end.

Well, it was moved to the NAAFI afterall

A straight and permanent "no" if the conviction had any one of these:

- a prison sentence
- dishonesty (regardless of how trivial)
- being put on any register of offenders (sex, child, animal)

For everything else, a deferred "no" until the relevant Rehabilitation of Offenders provision "hides" the conviction and the recruit can explain why the conviction should be discounted for the purposes of recruitment.

I used to share a room with a geezer who did 3 years inside because he smashed a fellas kneecaps to pieces after he found out he was a nonce.

He was without doubt in the top 10 toms I've come across in my time. It's not always black and white mate.

It rarely is black & white but there has to be a standard set.

There was aprogramme on a while ago featuring some Chelsea Pensioners, one of them was asked why he joined the army, it turned out he was a bit of a wrong-un when he was younger and ended up in borstal (we are talking 1930's here).

He found he really loved all the the marching about and bullying boots etc, the chief screw advised him to join the army when he was released to keep his nose clean, he did about 30 years service.

BRING BACK BORSTALS!! (but stay out of the greenhouse)

I can't imagine that there's anything more tightly bonded than a Welshman up his mother or sister.

Loved the listing that the Spams take as "no-nos"... Reads like the charge sheet for one Tuco Benedicto Pacifica Juan Maria Ramirez (and any other alias he known as ) at the beginning of "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" just as he's about to be strung up!
