Academy Sgt Major

This is the most senior Warrant Officer in the British Army. Why should he give a flying **** what everyone thinks.
Reckon someone has stuck the FT article on the notice board in the mess at RMA?

Maybe but they won't have signed it...... ;-)

Is he wearing a Guards tunic with an RMAS capbadge?

I've always wondered why the ASM badges to Sandhurts.....does he wear it in his beret when in C95s etc?

Thats AcSM not ASM, and he needs gripping.

The Ac Sgt Maj RMAS is a top boy, an old mate of mine and is a bit of a kit monster, as in very good at it.

Can't blame anyone for a dubiously angled picture of a hat thats probably been stuck in place for hours.

Long Live the Combat Gwar ;)

Technically he is an officer now, so why should his standards be any different from other officers. :)

HAs he taken his commission? Then he's not the AcSM any more. Otherwise, to paraphrase Doug Macey, he's a f-ckin' Warrant Officer!

And he wears a Guards tunic because the AcSM is a Guards WO's post!!

It's true, the same can be said of the Royal Signals' Corps RSM.

A pre-requisite is the agreement that the candidate must be a serving WO1 who has passed LECB.

He will be posted as the RSM having already been accepted for commissioning under the premis that when the post is up, they will promote to Captain with seniority from the same date as their peers that passed LECB and promoted to Capt up to 2 years previously.

So effectively, more fun as a prestigeous WO1 whilst picking up reckonable service as a Captain.

I am willing to be corrected on this but I believe they are actually both WO and Commissioned Offr, although heed only needs to be paid to the rank that someone is wearing. To keep life simpler .....

The Academy Sergeant Major used to totally rebadge to RMAS down to the shoulder titles on his SD - always wore 'Blues' when on Sovereign's Parade. Most, if not all, AcSMs - at least up until Ray Huggins's time - did not 'go' for a LE commission, they regarded the appointment as the pinnacle of their career.

Yes, don't confuse this post with that of the other prestigious ASM appointment - Artificer Sergeant Major. Both critical Warrant Officer appointments but if I ever want porn, beer, gennie repairs, or 45 gallon drum made into a barbie I won't be calling a Sandhurst number...
