UK considers treason charges against radicals
By Rafael Epstein in London

The British Government says it is considering charging people, who express support for terrorism, with treason.

At the same time, the Government is reported to have drawn up a list of up to 500 people who may be deported under new legislation in the next 12 months.

New legislation targeting individuals and groups could be rushed in by the end of September.

But the Government wants to act right away and it is looking at comments from three outspoken radical Muslim clerics, one of whom helped found one of the political organisations that will be banned.

Officials are examining whether the three men can be charged immediately under the common law offences of treason and incitement to treason.

Meanwhile newspaper reports suggest immigration officials have already been given a list of 500 names taken from a "watch list" of extremists compiled over the past five years.

An initial wave of up to 100 people could be deported next month, with the rest possibly by this time next year.
It seems the powers that be are finally waking up to the problem and being proactive for a change. A clear message needs to be sent that undermining our system from within through violence will not be tolerated.
