A nice surprise

I was taken flat aback today. I was in town on my lunch hour getting some shoes for my eldest when a random woman - possibly middle eastern - stopped and asked if I'd been to Iraq. (I was in uniform as I'm working at the TAC at the moment.) When I said that I had she just said, "Thank you for what you do," and went on her way. I was almost speechless and could only mumble that's alright. I have to say it left me a bit choked and seeing as we get precious little thanks from our own countrymen it somehow made it all seem worthwhile.
Its times like this one that give you that little glimmer of hope. And the thought that we might be doing something worth while and not risking are lives for sod all.
That's a sweet story, Bm.

It does indeed give us all hope.
