A footballer who thinks of others rather than himself

What a thoroughly decent human being. Good on him. It would have been easy for most of us to fall into the fast lane of celebrity. His parents obviously brought him up on good values.
D. R. J. Beckham did say that he's not going to Los Angeles Galaxy for the money. So perhaps the poor people of Leytonstone can savour the prospect of £97,855 being donated every week for the duration of the deal??????

Perhaps not.

Did not Niall Quinn give all of his testimomial money to charity a few years back?

Edit: yes he did

Niall Quinn
Brief description of achievement:

Niall Quinn, the former, Sunderland, Manchester City, Arsenal and Republic of Ireland International footballer, donated his testimonial match proceeds to education projects in Africa and Asia and local hospitals in Dublin and Sunderland, forming the Niall Quinn Children's Charity. His actions have inspired others to give of their good fortune and he has set a precedent for other players to follow suit.
I thought rather highly of Dirk Kuyt after a recent red top interview which documented how he'd donated tens of thousands of pounds to charity. When you look at his weekly wage, however, it seems a bit shallow.
