A few more questions...

If I was successful on application to the RE Troop Commander would you be able to chose a specific role As the RE has many varied roles e.g. Air Support, infrastructure support. It's only because the thought of Bomb disposal as a full time job does not appeal to me.

Also upon commission does a junior officer have to pay for there no 1 & 2 dress uniform & any other kit.

Where do you do your AOSB Briefing as I live in Portsmouth & would just like to know the distance between the 2.

Many thanks
From what I gather the No1 and No2 dress should be covered by your Junior Officer Clothing allowance, my friend who commissioned last year told me that most regiments have quite a stock pile of No1 and No2 dress so it isn't usually necessary for you to pay for this and the majority of the allowance goes on your Mess dress, I'm sure someone on here who was recently commissioned could either confirm this or tell you how it goes now.
You will specialise - I don't know exactly how it works (as I'm not RE), but I think you do RMAS, then a short regimental attachment, then Young Officers course.

As for uniform, you used to get a one of payment. there was then a kind of competition amongst tailors to provide you with the most for that money. you used to need Mess Dress, Service Dress and hats etc. No1 dress (blues) is extra. Now though, SD has been repolaced by Future Army Dress, which is issued, so I would guess that any uniform allowance at RMAS covers your mess kit and hats and that's it.

And yes, AOSB done at Westbury (and pre-AOSB).
