A colleague has been banned. Why?

@Good CO , @Bad CO . I have a colleague. He posts regularly in a group PM. He has posted nothing offensive anywhere, especially not on the main site. Pretty sure I made abundantly clear on his profile that he was a friend, to avoid this exact situation.

May I ask why?

His ID is FromTheStar. A reinstatement and a clearing of any presumed block on his registered email address would be appreciated.

Thank you.

We've had this before - Druzil got deleted as a 'spammer' while his account was open and in use, reading the site, which also meant that he couldn't rejoin under even another name. Canadian ex-services.

Damned straight I did.

. . . and anyway, @AlienFTM had added his supportive text to the subject profile after I got the hump.
I don't think so, given I only found out at the time of the first post here when he told me on another means, and any attempt to browse his profile generated this:

Oops! We ran into some problems.

This user's profile is not available.

And I marked his profile as friends before I added him to group chat. Probably in August or September, in the previous quarter's chat.

Notwithstanding that, I'm still surprised that your chum was hoofed on the strength of my post dated 7 August!

That's a flash-to-bang time of 2 and half months: not exactly surgical, is it?

However, if such is the case, my apologies to you and he/her.

That is overthinking to a specialist degree. The conversation is about an online team game we all play, and he was discussing tactics - ie hitting other players. Literally, with a bat, or knife or pillow or high heel shoes, in a mugging or chain attack or a war.

You know, the game Sluggy kept wibbling on about to her team - the ones in this conversation group?

It's a private chat with invited members only - not going to be an obvious inroad for a spammer.

Exactly the same as Druzil, also on suspicion of having an odd name , rather than any actual activity. We had more sympathy and got actual help then, frankly, although having deleted him while he was open then meant a blocked cycle and he gave up on the site, Which frankly would had had some very useful resources for him.

Hence making it plain it was a friend.

I'd just like to think that @Good CO and @Bad CO instruct moderators to check profiles before banning and not just take users calling out perceived spammers at their word when they haven't even bothered to look at their profiles.

As has been pointed, it's not the first time.

If you read the post to make a random linkage with esoteric asian toiletries, why not read the thread around it to see if it was a standard term of reference in other posts? I am sure I have posted hit dozens of times. Why not just check in with the person who has originated the conversation for clarity as a first step?- Especially if the originator is a long established member of the forum.

And mentioned this person is a new poster but legit becuase X, Y and Z.

Because a sleeper profile is going to be repeatedly added to a stable list of people every quarter......and it is a very long way round to infiltrate a team that doesnt' accept unknown applications in a random game, to advertise for free on another site, unlinked site.

BigEye is a new addition - best check all his posts in case he's advertising Mongolian Lipstick, eh?

So, you've blocked FromTheStar's IP address doing this. He won't be able to rejoin the site. Just like Druzil.

Would getting Torn newbies to post something innocuous a few times help?, so they look like less of a sleeper maybe

I beleive FTS did, for that reason.

I thought FZC meant a search for the term 'Hit'. There is in fact an oriental deodorant called Hit: I had it saved as a 'Poorly Engrish' pic from several years ago.

But it gets better.

Korean Soap???? I searched too, also the simplest search. He googled it. First few listings are all the same. He means the Korean Sci-fi romance series 'My Love From The Star'.

Risible. FYI the name is a geographical reference

Hmm.

With regard to your chum Druzil, I initially 'pinged' the profile, Alien gave me a nudge and said he was cool and I acknowledged that fact:

Subsequently he was hoofed. To draw a line under this, I suggest that you take it up with The Grownups.

Chap, if you've got that much of a flea up your arse about it, take it to site owners or Mods.
