  1. KABUL (Reuters) - Insurgents in Afghanistan killed four French soldiers and wounded another five on Saturday, one of the deadliest attacks on the French contingent in months, as violence escalates across the country.

    The raid occurred in mountainous Kapisa province in the east which is mainly patrolled by a French force under NATO command.

    The casualties were taken during an attack on a logistics convoy in the Nijrab district; The attack was carried out by a suicide bomber dressed in a burkha; they victms belonged to the 40e régiment d'artillerie based in Suippes and to the groupement interarmées des actions civilo-militaires (GIACM) from Lyons.

    Several of the wounded are said to be in a critical state so the toll could soon be higher.
