Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. My friend's dad recently passed away, as part of the process of preparing his dad's house for sale, he found written on a wall behind the wallpaper the following:

    FARRAR <- circled
    8th Battalion
    Midland Counties
    Para Regiment
    6 Airborne Division
    6th June 1944
    24th March 1945

does anybody have any idea what FARRAR means? and why it would be circled?

    Any help is greatly appreciated
  2. IIRC There was an Op Farrar - perhaps he was involved?
  3. Could it be a reference to A Farrar-Hockley? He was a captain in Korea, of course, but he might well have been of an age to have fought in WW2.
