700 TA to get called up for Telic in May in Soldier Mag?

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Does anyone know anymore about type of units / people that will be going?

I know it will be part of 20 Armoured....

Is this going to finally be my year?

    Wait out!

What ever happened to the "you must be expected to get called up"?
  2. Thought you'd only just changed corps (and so not trade trained)?

Have you volunteered, don't think you can now be mobilised otherwise?
  3. If you want to go on Telic 8, you best hurry up and get mobilised as they are off in a few months - RTMC has already started for this season!!!
  4. I've seen correspondece that say only "volunteers" will get mobilised. Cuts down on the number of Complaints the MOD have to deal with from employers etc.

Im a bit confused about the numbers being bandied about here. Does the 700 figure refer to the number of posts to be filled or to the drafts being trawled with expected attrition in mind? We lost close to 50% during my call up, mostly medical and dental issues, some of whom were supposed to return for the next draft after remedial action.

Your best bet is to have a gander here. Im guessing that E2 (branch non-specific) jobs are the ones that you'll be most interested in. Good luck with it mate, but like said above already, the general duty posts are probably already trawled for. Still you never know.

None of my business, but why not just crack on with your P Coy/arty trg? There'll always be Op Tours to stag on to and by then you'll be in a better position to go and do job you might enjoy doing for 6 months. A bloke I know (Pte rank) was mobilised as a Reg Reservist originally for an MT position, shunted to stores and has been condemned to spend his entire tour (and I do mean every damn day for 6 months!) escorting Locally Employed Civs around HQ while they mop up the bogs and hoover the offices. He'll never leave the base except to fly out, but still gets a medal and 6 months pay if that's what you're after. Just be advised that your head long rush for the fields of glory could lead you down an office corridor as a full-time 'Choggi Bitch'.

On the other hand you could land on your feet like me ... 8)

Should have added that the above warning of impending mobilisation to any recruit who showed up at a TAC, was always a large dose of bollocks. To have read some of the posts that were being put up on these threads you'd have thought that they had reintroduced press-ganging.

From my own experience (and comparing it with others), some units are better at getting their guys on trawls than others. Not sure if intention or incompetence is at the heart of this. One thing seemed to be consistent though, if you are Infantry all you have to do is ask and you're pretty much assured an Asian vacation.

Changed last year and have a Signals trade (may have to do some form for conversion?)

RP578 You say some wise words!!!!! I have just started P-Coy training, so if possible would like to finish that first..... (even if i won't get actual wings until 2096) :?

BUT, I really want the experience of a tour and hope that it will happen sooner than later?

I was trying to get onto Top Cover for Med Grp on 7 and there seems to be loads of jobs there? what do you think? Any harm asking PSI?

Sod it mate put in for everything yopu qualify for, you got to hit pay dirt with one of them! Yeah the SPSI-PSAO axis is usually the access point in most units, but I have heard of guys going directly to their CVHQ. Buy the PSI a beer and bend his ear with your tles of misery and woe. Should let you know where you stand if nothing else.

Again none of business, but why the long time to get your wings? Is it a Jumps course thing? Good luck with mate!

  9. Just refering to the current state of the courses at Brize... Someone told me it had bee 3 years since anyone from the TA had completed a jumps course in one go... i.e. in 2 weeks?
