Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. OK, a bit harsh, but bloody hell! 2.6 million full time on the sick?

Six million British adults on benefits'

Six million working-age adults will soon be claiming benefits, a think-tank has claimed.

Policy Exchange has forecast that official figures due out later this month will put the total benefits roll over 6 million for the first time.
The group made its projection on the basis of Department of Work and Pensions benefits data.

The last official figures, issued in February, showed that the total was 5.8 million.
There were 1.4 million people on Job Seekers’ Allowance and 2.6 million on Employment Support – formerly known has incapacity benefit. The total also includes people claiming benefits as lone parents, as carers and because of disability.

  2. And guess who's paying?

    Not me :p

The numbers are ridiculous though, something is going to have to change because this is unsustainable.
  4. Well part of me is  But you are correct - completely unsustainable.

Standby for a spurious defence from the usual suspects.
  5. Tax dodging twunts

    As for the rest
The so called incapacity benefit should be halved every couple of months until the lazy idle tw@s get down to zero and then have to get a job. Yes there will be some how have genuine illness/injuries and can still get their payments, but these others can get weeded out.
Child benefit should be stopped to those who have a decent income and can afford to pay their own way. And then it should only be for the first 2 kids.
Job seekers allowance should be given to all but then reduced on a monthly basis until they get a job.
  6. Going by the thread title I thought you were going to say there were 6 million New Labour supporters 8O
  7. Where are the 6 million jobs that these people arent doing?
  8. It does tell a story when on one hand you've got a lad who's lost a leg and is trying to get back to the front line, where on the other you've got chavs who've never worked a day in their life because they're a junkie/jakey/obese etc.
  9. 'The numbers are ridiculous though, something is going to have to change because this is unsustainable.'

Yes, add civil service pensions to that and 'off the book' PFIs and you'll soon understand how we are heading for £1 Trillion debt.
  10. There aren't - the economy is being drained so no room for investment and infrastructure!

But that's not what you wanted to hear was it? Are you a BIFF as well? Would you rather the facts were covered up in the Socialist Paradise?

6 million eh? Lummy - that makes a bit of a lie of Gordon Brown's economic miracle. Actually, he's right - the fact that we haven't yet gone cap-in-hand to the IMF is an economic miracle.

BTW - Incapacity Benefit - paid to junkies and alcoholics, rather than Unemployment Benefit. Why? Because Labour wants us to know that they value junkies and alcoholics more than people who simply have no jobs. Hence Incapacity pays out more than UB does. Little known fact: If you are a junkie or drinker, you get paid more.

    I blame the Tories. Does anyone else . . . . . . . .

I pay my taxes, just not in the UK. ;)

I agree on child benefit, anybody earning more than say 20k should not get it.

Where I live if you become unemployed you receive 70% of your normal salary, but only for a maximum of 1 year. It takes the sting out of losing your job but motivates you to find another one in a reasonable time.

All these people who are long term sick should receive support but they should be made to do voluntary work in return. Even if you are sedentary you can put letters in envelopes for example. Theres far to many getting a free lunch and thinking they deserve it, sven being a prime example.

  13. Well funny you should say that… as the old saying goes, 'Turkeys don't vote for Christmas', and Labour has been busy expanding it's client state since 1997. Look what happened to Frank Field when he suggested shrinking it.
  14. Ok so add this figure to the number of public sector employees and the overall number of people reliant on the state for their income is truly staggering.

But I suspect it means re-election is inevitable and who knows where that will end?

It will end in us going to the IMF, and the IMF saying "You've got to be fcuking joking my old son! Sack all them state employees, dump these nationalised industries like the National Health, lose the gold plated pensions, sell off loads of land, sell what's left of the gold, reduce the size of your armed forces, stop giving money away to other countries, raise taxes and THEN we'll think about lending you money. At the moment, we'd have to be more stupid than Northern Rock to lend you money, because unlike Northern Rock, no cnut is going to bail the IMF out when WE make a bad loan!"
