Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Here's one for you old sweats.....

Can anyone tell me the designation of the Signal Troop attached to 50 Missile Regt in the 70's?

    Really appreciate it if known.

    Best Regards

  2. Before or after they amalgamated with 24 Missile Regt RA?

    50 Missile Regiment web site

The ones I can find are:

    550 Sig Tp - 1973
    543 Sig Tp - Nov 76
    548 Sig Tp - Feb 77

  3. Thanks Chris
Believe it or not, I served 1972-74 and I thought the troop number was in the 600's. According to your investigations it was 550 but that doesn't ring a bell.

Vic Shuttleworth was the Troop Sergeant and two of the JNCO's were Mick Harlow and Pete Simpson.

    Thanks anyway
    Dave

  4. There were some 6xx series Troops that provided the support for the missile units; although whether these retained their designation after amalgamations etc (especially into 260 Sig Sqn?) I don't know.

Some decent info in the book "The Royal Corps of Signals: Unit Histories of the Corps (1920-2001)" If you follow the link and go to page 314, there is a fair bit of info on RA rear links.

Think my old man was attached to 22 AD Regt in the late 60s, I know I lived in Hubelrath at the time!

  5. I didn't know you were a Squaddie Brat.

    Sort of figures now.....

  6. Slice me in half and I have "certa cito" written through me, mate.

Old man and one uncle in the Sigs, another uncle in RE and another in ACC.

And my son is based in Gutersloh but I shan't say what he's in :omfg:
