Noticed on my pay statement this month that I had been billed for a Rail Card.

Strange, as I have not had one for about 10 years.

Upon enquiring at the pay office it transpired that my wife had signed for a Rail card in 1999 while I was on tour.

That unit had "lost " the form billing me (and quite a few others) only just submitting it.

So how is it that when I am owed money it takes forever, but when I owe it gets taken pretty sharpish?

Unit that adminsitered my pay at the time of the incident was 7 Transport Regt RLC. Just in case you were wondering.

Oh well - you almost got away with it. More money for the rest of us - they should have charged you interest!
