I saw this and though funny, is actually somewhat enlightening. Much impressed by the Finnish guy.

Also, upon further research I learned that Jack Churchill is in Fact the only known solder to have killed a Kraut sentry by shooting one in the head with a bow and arrow. Now that is BADASS
I thought that Andes Lasson did that too
Not that I'm aware of, doesn't mean it couldn't have happened though

I'm sure it was in the book his mum wrote about his life, on one of the very early raids he took part in, Possibly the raid on the Channel Islands

Churchill was responsible for the last known fatality in war with an arrow, there have been several people killed with arrows in various conflicts, just ask the French.

OneTap:

That is the most extraordinary bio I think I have ever read.

Is this a Wiki pisstake or was he for real?

If the former, he is a more legendary charachter than Sherlock Holmes or Sir Harry Flashman. If the latter...well, I am speechless.

Many thanks for posting.

What about that ex Admiral, Cowan , I think , who joined the Commandos when in his sixtys or seventys and the Estonian navy named a minesweeper after him. mad as a box of frogs. Had no teeth when in the Balkans so he used to mix all his food into a goopy mess before scoffing

You could probably find someone from each rank in the British Army who could match these.

Bernard Freyberg is as much of a nutter as Carton de Wiart - but he goes from civilian dentist to brigadier in three years - via a VC DSO and a slack handful of MIDs for acts of daring do
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Freyberg,_1st_Baron_Freyberg

Wikipedioa doesn't do the story justice. The one man deception operation involved a two hour night swim towing a raft of pyro then a game of find the destroyer in the dark.

And so are the remarkable Bradford Brothers
http://www.geocities.com/bradcrem/bradford_roland01.html
I like the idea that the young Roland used his leave to canvas Whitehall to grant equal leave rights to other ranks - a 25 year old Brigadier, who might have been a young divisional commander in the Second World War - had he lived..

Company Sergeant Major Skinner VC of the KOSB http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kendrick_Skinner and his friend CQMS Grimbaldeston http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Henry_Grimbaldeston

The VCs are the tip of the iceberg for men who had each been wounded seven times.

Stan Hollis wasn't just a VC winnerr for D Day
