MORE than 100 soldiers have proudly marched through the streets of Emsworth for St George’s Day. To huge cheers and waving flags, troops from 47 Regiment Royal Artillery held their annual parade. The parade has become an annual tradition in Emsworth and is organised by Emsworth Business Association.

This was the last year 47 Regiment will take part in the parade as the unit are due to move to Larkhill in Wiltshire. The parade provided an opportunity for the regiment to say farewell to their base on Thorney Island.

Hundreds of people gathered on the streets to see the parade. The troops marched from The Lord Raglan pub to St Peter’s Square where battery history readings commenced. War veterans and children from Thorney Island Primary School also took part in the parade.

Veterans were presented with the Emsworth Rose by Honorary Colonel, Major General R P M Weighill CBE, Commanding Officer of 47 Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel N T Sawyer and the Mayor of Havant, Councillor Paul Buckley.

The troops were accompanied by the Band of the Rifles on their march.
