457 Battery RA, Southampton

Looking at going down to the battery and having a look around and see what they are like.

But would appreciate if anyone can give me further information on them before I go, if there is anyone on here who is serving/has served who can give me a run down on them, that would be good.

What I am after is an insiders view of the battery i.e. military, social, training or anything which would help me make an informed choice.

F*cking good bunch, that's what I would say from the time I spent there.

It's an HVM battery, so expect lots of HVM stuff, but there are plenty of other ranges, mil skills and general interest weekends. Good TA centre, with a good "social spirit" and lots of opportunities to socialise, if that's your thing.

The best thing is to pop down there and have a look around, the recruiting team are very helpful, and should give you a good insight into what the battery does in all aspects of TA life.

I left very recently due to having to move area, and I miss the battery rather a lot.
I'm in the process of mobilising at the moment with 457 being my parent battery. I count joining 457 as one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Like my ginger friend said there is a great social spirit among the battery and there is always allot going on. Its worth joining just for the annual ski trip lol.

In the short time that I have been there I have made many good friends. In addition to my military training I have also been to Arnhem bridge on a battlefield tour been to Austria Skiing twice, been offered an HGV driving course (that I could not take due to mobilising). All this I have achieved in less than 2 years.

I think that you get out what you put in. My advice to you is pop down one Tuesday drill night just before 8 and get the low down from the recruitment team.

ps. we miss you to 'watch_the_birdie' even if you are ginger xx
