Oh aye!!! The CIED policy touted makes no mention of Attacking the Network. In which case it's all a bit useless.

French Soldiers Killed In Mali
3rd January 2021 at 10:45am

Two French soldiers have been killed in Mali after their armoured vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), France has confirmed.
The personnel were taking part in an intelligence mission in the Menaka region of the country’s north east.
It is part of Operation Barkhane – aimed at fighting Islamist extremists in Africa’s Sahel region.
According to the French military, a third soldier was injured but is in a stable condition.
The incident comes just five days after three others died in similar circumstances.
The three were killed on Monday when their vehicle struck an IED during a military operation in Mali’s central Mopti province.
In a statement released late on Saturday, French President Emmanuel Macron spoke of his “great sadness”.
He referred to France’s determination “in its fight against terrorism” and paid tribute to the “courage” of French soldiers.
More than 5,000 French troops are deployed in West Africa on Operation Barkhane, which is also supported by UK personnel.
The number of French soldiers killed in the Sahel region since 2013 is now 50.

Sargent Yvonne Huynh (33 years old...and mother of a small child) and the Caporal / Brigadier Loïc Reisser 24 years old
Both belonged to the 2 Regiment de Hussards / Houssards regiment based at Hagueneau, Bas Rhin (near Verdun)
The 2 Houssards are a reccon unit and the véhicule you see above is a, V.B.L. (véhicule léger blindée = light armoured vehicule....prior the Scorpion réarmement programme and little chance against an I.E.D. device that might have been planted a year or more ago
It's the 3 frontiers zone
That's 5 K.I.A. in one week

RIP.

That Jackal gunners seat is a big improvement on the solid rubber RWMIK one. Felt like I'd been to Barrymore's pool party after Wessex Storm a couple of years back!

According to official briefings, "Some 200 personnel from the task group travelled 50km from their base in 60 vehicles during their first operational patrol. The troops met local people and spent several days "outside the wire" before returning to camp."

Which medals will the Brit MINUSMA contingent get ? The UN medal or is there a Brit Medal for Op Newcombe ?

IIRC, the GSM (2008) was already awarded for Op NEWCOMBE (Wiki confirms: Western Africa, Operation NEWCOMBE (Mali), 13 January–22 May 2013), so unless it is re-issued with a new clasp, it will be the UN Medal.
