Ripon - top posting.

Are Sapper units are any good? Erm - Yup of course we are!! Work hard. play hard, and as a member of a technical Corps supporting a Engineer Combat Support Arm you will be treated as an equal.

Ripon ........... surprisingly nice place, out the way but with reasonable access to the rest of the world (via A1/M1). Some good pubs around the place.

I would imagine hitting yourself on the head every morning with a hammer will fit this, but yes Ripon and the engyqueers are ok.

Just had a call from my OC offering me more choices, nice. The only one that im leaning towards is the opportunity to go to 1CS in dreadded BORDON. This is because of the distance to home (im not mummys little soldier honest!!) I need any info I can get on this unit before I give the OC an answer.

Basically what unit is better: 1cs bordon or 21 Eng Ripon??

No you are in fact a lucky bugger, I as a proud Yorkshireman am stuck down south in what could be considered a circus if the Army provided bright clothing.

Oh and for the love of God do not go to Bordon, you should know this already? :)

If you are talking about 1CS Bn REME you may find that they are in fact in sunny Catterick not Bordon.

Apologies, I should have divulged further. I've been offerered 1 CS 'COY' in Bordon. (whatever that entails). Its definitely not Catterick. Catterick is, as far as I know, made up of 4 ARMD, 12 ARMD & 24 FD coys.

Wouldnt touch a Bn with a bargepole, no matter how long.

Many thanks

Dear TT

Go for 21 Engr Regt Ripon. They were here in Germany and I worked with them very closely. They are a good mob. Reports coming back, i.e. I chatted to their QM last week a good mate is they are happy to be out of Catterick and Ripon is a nice place.

Just to update your Army list. 4 Armd Bde disbanded 2 years ago, it is now 4 Mech Bde largely based in Catterick.

As far as Bordon goes, well really no arguement. Spent some time ther with RMP CP and that is why its there....middle of nowhere somewhere between Chichecter and Aldershot.....check OS maps and there is a blank space round Bordan that just says, 'here there be dragons!!' You have been warned.

a very nice place....just off the A1 for starters!! The camp accom isn't too bad (Reems are in the newer blocks or they were when i was there!!) Workshop buildings are fairly new too...town is alright as well, unlike quite a few other places i could mention.

One of the better postings and handy for Northern/Scottish folk

Well ur gonna hate me for this, but I'm a southener, A Londoner to be exact. I have renounced my Southern fairy wings and been made honourary monkey. Fact is I much prefer the north as London is dog toffee not to mention Pricey on the p#ss but up in the north u have Wigan, Newcastle BLACKPOOL among other legendary places. As i have just left Germany I dont think I'd be able to take it too easy on the drink for a while so could use Catterick/Ripon as a 'cool down' period.
A good plan methinks

Speaking as a guy at 21 Eng, ah can recommend it as a decent place to be location wise - Ripon is a decent wee town, and the accom is hardly the worst in the army!

However the last year has been horrific due to the move from Osnabruck to England, and has only just recently settled down - there has been an almost complete turnover in personnel since I arrived as well due to big numbers of guys signing off in Traz, and new guys coming to Ripon.

The OC and AQ are sound, with the ASM likely to change soon, so no complaints about the top corridor, but boy have ah been bored fuckless recently.

Afghan awaits to newbies at the end of the year!
