http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8371662.stm

The Large Hadron Collider experiment has re-started after a 14-month hiatus while the machine was being repaired.

Engineers have made two stable proton beams circulate in opposite directions around the machine, which is in a tunnel beneath the French-Swiss border.

The team may try to increase the £6bn ($10bn) collider's energy to record-breaking levels this weekend.

..but sod that Im still on the beer and looking at next weekend :)

That was a proper disappointment. Remember the talk of it making a black hole?

Well, I had an End Of The World parade for it.

Suits, best boots, medals, bowler hats. G&T in hand and a brollie.

Well, you wouldn't want to be hoovered into a black hole without one, would you?

What a swiz!
I have just watched the new Star Trek movie for the second time. If they want a Black Hole just call Captain James Tiberius Kirk and the team :)

I see they didn't mention this incident...
Dunno what the fuss is about - they quite clearly didn't exceed the speed-of-light limit.
Quite, a bit of a non-story. That's why it never made the mainstream media. Oh well.

Quantum physics became a closed book to me as soon as wave/particle duality was mentioned. I've therefore been watching news 24 all day waiting for somebody to misread the autocue and say 'Large Hardon'.

I don't think Heisenberg was that certain about it, either.
