Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. FOR SALE: Ex MOD experimental searchlights, made by Marconi Radar Systems Leicester (now BAE Systems). A total of two units, both identical apart from the lense at end, one 'looks' like its for searching the ground, the other the air. Each unit comes with a power control box, shutter control box, Overload protection box and all relevent cables. Everything comes in wooden crates. I have been contacting several different buyers as I realise these are very rare and would ideally suite collectors. They will only be sold as a pair. When operating they send a VERY powerful solid beam of light literally for miles! very similar to the searchlight from the batman films, but a more solid intense beam. Made from aluminium and brass. Thank you for your time and I invite you to make an offer should you be interested.

please contact for more images of any particular area

    Do they work?
  4. Should I have said 'SERIOUS' offers only :) thanks anyway Cabana, I don't actually want to let them go so you will have to be a little more persuasive with you your offers.

I'll need a roof mounting kit for a Landcruiser, do you have one?

I want to use them for fox lamping......
  6. Sorry I should have included more info, YES they are both fully working, I bought them at an MOD auction back in 1991 when the MOD still had public auctions. You would need a power supply as they can drink around 130 amps at 12-24 volts easily. I can advise how to power them if you don't have a proper generator.
  7. Alsacien before I thought about trying to find serious (ahem cough cough) buyers (who am i kidding) that's what came to mind.... i could go lamping with these, probably burn out the little bunnies eyes or incinerate them on the spot! probably wouldnt even need to shoot them as they would be blind and fryed!
  8. If you don't want to let them go... why are you selling htem?

That said, they look just hte job for the nippers next nativity.
  9. Chocolate_frog I can see the local newspaper title now, 'local man blinds school children!' maybe you have 'specialised' kit sat around never being used but thats not my cup of tea. I realise after ten years of them sitting boxed that they should go to a collector. They are stupidly powerful and I will never have a real use for them, nor am I a collector of this kind of thing. they came in a surprise container that I bid on.
it looks like im lamping with them :(
  10. They'd make cracking security lights for someone who lived in the sticks. Imagine the sort of ne'er-do-wells who pillage farms and rural houses, tap-tapping their way to the dole office with white sticks.
