LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. -- The British consulate says two soldiers remain hospitalized in critical condition nearly three days after colliding during a skydiving jump over Lake Elsinore.

Consulate communications officer Katharine Keith said Monday the families of both British soldiers are with them.

She says they are investigating to determine if the men were taking part in military exercises or skydiving for other reasons.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Mike Fergus says the agency will examine the chutes. Riverside County sheriff's spokeswoman Cpl. Courtney Donowho says the British military has taken over investigation of the crash.

A spokeswoman for the company that arranged Friday's flight, Skydive Elsinore, said they had no comment.

Keith says the consulate is not releasing information about the men, including their names.
