What happened when the fighting between the Axis and Allied Powers stopped in May 1945? Life wasn’t all rosy and peaceful. Across Europe vast numbers people were on the move having been chased out of their homes; killing, rape, all types of violence was the norm. Not a highly publicised period in history, but we now have a book which investigates this period – Savage Continent by Keith Lowe.

For your chance to win go to the entry form on Survey Monkey and correctly complete the questions. There are 5 copies of this book available. The competition will run until Sunday 10[SUP]th[/SUP] June.

The review of the book by Boldnotold can be found here.

  5. I had a mooch around the Churchill collection whilst at Bletchley park earlier, It now transpires I should have paid more attention!
  6. What the heck, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Intending to buy an additional copy as a present. Maybe this will save me a few pennies.
  7. Right thats enough entries now.

5 books and 5 entries means a win each.

    Damn just realised I can't count :)
  8. Try to get back to my winning ways!!

Lot of incorrect answers - some people obviously can't use Google/Wiki properly :)

Still plenty of time to get your - correct - entries in.

Bump - closes tomorrow at about midday!
  11. Just bought another copy of this..... without checking what's what.

It's a really good book. It gives a good perspective of the post war chaos in a way you can actually put to scale.

Answers (and I am surprised how many got the answers wrong as Google/Wiki had them all)

    Q1 - Westminster College, Missouri

Q2 - Stettin (in the Baltic) to Triest (in the Adriatic)

    Q3 - 28 years (1961-1989), although 38 seemed to be a popular (incorrect) answer!

Look out for the next competition starting later this week.
