18 June: 1X French Para KIA RC-E

A Private belonging to BG Raptor provided by the 1er Régiment de Chasseurs Parachutistes (1er RCP) has been KIA by SAF today around 1500 near the village of Shatoray in the FRA AOR of RC-E in Kapisa.

He is the 62nd French soldier killed in Afghanistan.

I thought the 1er RCP were disbanded at the end of conscription. Are they still at Camp de Souge?

 

Still very active, the garrison HQ is near Pamiers, Ariège department in the Midi-Pyrénées region.

Yes the 1er RCP has taken the place of the 9eme RCP in Souge when the 9eme RCP was disbanded in 1999.

Here is a picture of the 1er RCP in action taken on the 2nd of June during Operation Quantum of mercy in the Alasay area of RC-E.

The 13eme RDP is moving this year from Dieuze to Souge so there is once again an airborne regiment in Souges.

Thanks Emsav and Fantassin. I'm glad to hear that the 1er RCP is still going (I worked with them twice in the 90s and they were great hosts with a fine, if turbulent, history).
