Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Does anybody no anything about 144 Parachute Medical Squadron?

I am about to begin as a Student Paramedic with the London Ambulance Service and would be interested in spending my spare time with the TA putting my first aid skills into practice in a military background.

I've found loads of info about working with the 254 Field Ambulance in Hitchin.

But I want to know more about 144 Parachute Medical Squadron in Hornsey.

Are they attached to 16 Air Assault Brigade?

Would it involve passing P Coy?

Do they provide emergency pre-hospital care and evacuation in the same was a field ambulance would?
  2. Best to ask on the medical forum I think, maybe a moderater can move your post :?

144 Sqn are an integral part of 16 CS Med Regt, they have a few lads out on Op Herrick right now, working alongside their regular colleagues as part of the UK Joint Force Med Group in Helmand province.
  3. My best mates with their Cardiff det, currently on Herrick just now.

PM me if you want to be put in touch with him for more info
  4. I'm in the process of joining 144 in Nottingham. Just had clearance from the optician that my peepers are good enough (I wear contact lenses).

I spoke with the OC of the Nottingham Detachment last week and he said that the unit's priorities are to get recruits through P Company and get their wings up BEFORE any medical training takes place. They want all medics to be Para trained.

Just go to get my tenderfeet sorted out for blisters while tabbing and I'm set.
  5. Hi, I started with them in the mid 80's when they were 144 PFA.They were based in the Duke of Yorks Bks.As a Chef.Practiced more medical things than cooking. They moved to Wenlock TA Center, then to Hornsey.I only have fond memories of my time there.I went Reg in 1990 for Gulf 1 and stayed in.
  6. That will work out well for me. I think being a student paramedic I will already be overloaded with medical training and the PT will be the biggest benefit to me.
  7. I would like to join 144 Para Med Sqn but don't live anywhere near a unit. Is it possible to join up without living in the area or would I be required to live locally? Would the TA pay for travelling expenses or at least part of them?

I am a Paramedic and would like to join the TA but not just a regular unit. There doesn't seem to be much demand for Paramedics and I have basically been told that I would be treated as a bog standard TA CMT and not as a Paramedic. To be accepted as a Paramedic I have been advised to join a specialist unit and I am very interested in 144.
  8. can i join 144 squadron as healthcare assistant?
  9. so what happened at basic mate?
  10. i went to keogh barracks on my phase 2 visit and they told me that i wont get any civvy qualifications and that the promotion as a med tech is really bad so i looked at my options and seen that its much better if i would study to be a registred nurse and rejoin again.
but while im studying i want to join a ta unit because i really enjoyed the military side of my training like exercise, shooting etc.
  11. 144 has bases at London, Nottingham, cardiff & Glasgow.

You can claim travelling expenses, as we are a niche unit, part of 16 Med regt.
