13 January: 1 French NCO KIA in Afghanistan

  2. This NCO was a sergeant with the 517 Transport Regiment and he was mentoring Kandak 35 of the ANA. He was KIA by an IED on the Bagram-Nijrab road. Two other French soldiers have been WIA in the blast.

    Sgt Diop, KIA yesterday was aged 40. He was a former paratrooper who had later on transfered to a Transportation unit. Afghanistan was his tenth deployement. He was a father of six.
     
  6. Very sad.

    After 9 deployments, being 40, and with 6 kids, he'd more than done his bit. I hope the French government look after his wife and kids.
