112 Gripes About The French

    The bit I found fascinating was that the French government paid 850 francs month to all US troops in France in 1945 (outside of any repayment of Lend-Lease), at a time when they were paying their own troops 800 francs a month, reducing to 180 francs after Sept 1945.

    Some of the statistics of the cost to France of occupation are eye-opening!

  4. Reading up about the liberation of Europe and apparently both British and American troops and governments treated the Germans better because the Germans were more welcoming and grateful for us getting rid of Hitler that the French were

    the difference was that in France we were getting rid of the Germans, in Germany we were getting rid of the Nazis
  6. interesting stuff! like those little 'Instructions for American Service men' or 'A Guide for British Servicemen' books you see in the miltiary history section of waterstones...
  7. Very interesting, I now have a revised attitude to France during and just after ww2. Still don't like the French though :)
