104Bn REME going, going

Discussion in 'Army Reserve' started by Cardinal, Mar 23, 2007.

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. nearly gone apparently.

The RHQ is to relocate to Tidworth and become the RHQ of a mixed TA/Reg Bn. The northerners in the unit will move to the two coy's which will then become part of a northern based unit and us southerners will move into the two coy's in a unit based in Sussex or some such place.

Still a busy time with lots on for the next couple of years. However I am pretty gutted by the news, I like the unit, have made some good mates there and do not relish all the hassle which goes with a unit being disbanded and a new one raised, not again anyway.

1 Wessex gone, 78 Engineers gone and now 104Bn REME going as well. Not very good, not very good at all.

Jump ship early or stay until it sinks?

    Regards Cardinal

Ever had the feeling that you might be a bit of a Jonah?

  3. Cardinal, could you please post your description, so I know to lock the recruiting office door :threaten:

Some REME Unit in Sussex? I wonder who that could be??? I'll give you, oh, 103 guesses?

  5. You won't find many REME guys in Sussex though - Surrey, Kent or Hampshire, maybe.

    check your PMs

  8. It is but there is only the HQ there - currently trying to build up a reccy mech platoon there, but that's it. The majority of people there at the moment are either HQ staff or Driver/Rad Ops. The TAC is a bit small for anything else anyway - although we should be getting a new, bigger one in a year or two.

  9. Move over Duke I'm going to come and join you. :threaten:

  10. I am tall, handsome, fit as a fiddle and dont look more than twenty.

I do have a short dumpy, little mate with grey hair who looks about a hundred who might try and join though :brilsmurf:

  11. I have been in touch with 104 about a transfer to them from my unit, I have been sent a latter from them and a transfer form that I and my oc/co have to fill in. I was just about to go ahead with this but where will I stand with them now?

  12. They are still recruiting and it seems have a couple of years left to run. After that two nationally recruited coy's with predominantly southern soldiers will become part of a Sussex based Bn and the two coy's with predominantly recruited northern soldiers will join a northern Bn.

Since the bulk of the men are in the coy's rather than RHQ I get the impression that there will just be some internal movement between one coy and another.

So the REME specialist will remain but working alongside independant TA and for a few in the RHQ with regulars as well.

If the soldiers in the coy's dont change then its still going to be a worthwhile unit as the lads are brilliant to work with. Its just that as a whole 104 will cease to exist which is a shame because when it comes together its great.

  13. Thanks Cardinal I shell proceed.

  14. 104 Bn is cutting in half; half will be administered from Sussex, half from Durham. The exercises will still be with the same people, albeit in 2 groups, but the companies will stay as they are.
