So it looks like el presidente's motives for 'withdrawing' troops from Iraq has been revealed.....They're off down the Stan!!...

More than 1,000 extra British troops are expected to be sent to Afghanistan to combat an expected spring offensive by the Taliban, according to reports. The Guardian says the Defence Secretary Des Browne will announce the £250m move on Monday.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said that was speculation, adding any changes would be announced to Parliament "in the usual way".

Sky's Defence Analyst Francis Tusa said a rise in British troop numbers would be "no surprise".

  2. Douglas Young of BAFF made the point during his recent piece on BBC 24 ref Troop Drawdown, that some of BAFFs membership had said that they believed this might well be the entire reason :applaud:

    BAFF right again. :thumleft:
  3. Do you mean heavily trialed in the media and then a totally different number mentioned by the time the announcement is officially made in Parliament.
  4. Hardly worth applauding though, given the implications of it.
