1 mech bde any good?

I think the whistling wind and smell of tumbleweed should be telling you something!

In the absence of anything better here's my view. My experiences go back to the mid-80s, but I think they're probably still relevant.

1 Mech Bde was and probably still is a good unit, if you like Armd Bde HQs (with armd SANs) - the bit that got me was...... Tidworth (what a dump). Didn't suit me but it depends on what you want to do when you're not working - some people liked it because they could go home for the weekend. In my days the pads accommodation was a tip - but they must have upgraded it - a bit like Coronation Street on a bad day (you don't state your circumstances).

I was used to the Germany/NI way of life when I went there and found it alien that everyone legged it on Friday afternoon. I was used to playing sport and socialising at weekends. As is often stated on this board - get stuck in, a good unit is what you make it - be positive and give it your best shot. At least it'll make the time pass quicker!
i havnt actually been posted to i mech but i have been attached and to be honest mate it was arse

good people, friendly bunch, thats about it for me though. it was just a cluster f**k
but, its different for everyone, i recomend you go there with an open mind and make up your own opinion,

only probs is the location realy
and look forward to plent of exercises on salisbury plain.
Tidworth's a dump. 215 only have Clansman now (well could be Bowman by now, I was posted out a year ago).

It'll all be different from how it was, since the hierachy has pretty much completely changed since we came back from Telic - new OC, 2IC and Ops Offr.

Housing - I wouldn't keep a dog in the blocks, the pads depend whether you get one of the new ones at the top of Station Road or one of the slums in Zouch.
i have done two tours of 1 Mech in my 17 years and although tidworth is remote, its what you make it !!

The unit is very deployable, but single accomodation is the Pits and the Mess is very small, but nice.

Enjoy !

I am a man of few words in many cases. But Tidworth summons up a few on the tip of my tongue.....

bleak, daunting, dejecting, depressive, discouraging, disheartening, dismal, dispiriting, distressing, dreary, funereal, gloomy, heartbreaking, hopeless, joyless, melancholic, melancholy, mournful, oppressive, sad, saddening, somber, upsetting.

Apart from that, enjoy...
