Suicide bombers have launched a deadly attack on a Sufi shrine in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore.

At least 35 people died in the blasts at the popular Data Darbar shrine late on Thursday evening, officials say.

At least 175 other people were hurt in the blasts, believed to be the first targeting a shrine in Lahore.

Although no-one has yet said they carried out the attack, Taliban militants and their Punjabi jihadi allies have been involved in several such bombings in the northern Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province.

The shrine is largely frequented by members of the majority Barelvi sect, who are seen as heretics by the Taliban.

Most of the Taliban belong to the rival Deoband Sunni sect, which strongly disapproves of worship at shrines.

The shrine is visited by hundreds of thousands of people each year from both Sunni and Shia traditions of Islam.
Tragic & horrific, but... reminds me of the old adage 'divide and conquer'. Lets hope this recruits coalition forces some allies.

The affect is likely to be the reverse.

Government officials hinted that this attack was RAW's doing, an old fiction something they were too shocked to use over the Ahmedi mosque attacks.

Groups built up by Pindi for the Kashmir conflict now loosely described as the "Punjabi Taliban", are going after minority sects in order to build up their base and spark sectarin conflict. It'll play pretty well with the hard right in Pakistan. What we have here is big trouble trickling down from the Pak armies highly divisive war in FATA which in turn is an unintended consequence of pushing the talibans south of the Durand.

Ladies & Gentlemen we have arrived at Lahore International.....Please set your watches back 1000 years.....the rest of Humanity wants to move forward, a big civil unrest is going to happen...but as long as it happens in Pakistan and stays there...fine, perhaps some of our own jehadists should fly out to help their musilm breatherin fight each other.
