The flood of more than 1.4 million Iraqi refugees, with as many as 10,000 pouring over the border each week, is pushing Syria to the edge, most observers say.

"The situation is starting to scare a lot of people," said Samir Taqqi, a political analyst at the Orient Center for Studies, a Damascus think tank.

Public services are deteriorating. State-run hospitals, inundated by tens of thousands of Iraqis seeking free medical care, are short on staff and medical supplies. Unable to afford serving cafeteria food, many are asking patients to bring their own.

Edge of what? Earth? Hope it falls off then. Save us a lot of bother.... Bugger.... not in the disc world... recalculate..... :D

I suppose this is a bad thing then. Doesn't help that the Syrians aren't really activily stopping the loons from its own country and transients from jumping across the border and causing a lot of the problems in Iraq.

Perhaps Syria should look at the beasts it feeds in Hamas and elsewhere and reevaluate how it conducts itself.

    Not much sympathy here
