Builds 1/32 TBM-3 Gruman Avenger from Trumpter

Did half an hour last night.

This is one of those secret weapons that were fitted to the Avenger. The round leaves the barrel, sneaks round a corner a bit before continuing through an extension, having navigated the gap.........

Contact lens. All will be revealed later....

Something to do with the large circular hole in the wing by any chance?
close. It’s for the light on the lower wing surface. its just a bloody hole with a bit of glass covering it.

These are nearing completion. Should be them assembled on Saturday I reckon after shooting

I did similar by gently pushing cooking foil into a hole, from the outside and with the shiniest side of the foil facing outward, to make a suitable shallow done - 'repousse' if you like. Glued lens in and trimmed. (Then I wondered about actually having an LED in there it's so lamp like).

Embarrassed to say I had to shelve the project - yes it's actually got a gestation longer than your Chinook - but the landing light looks good!

At this rate I may have both wings on the joined fuselage by Sunday.

So it’s joined. This kit is supposed to be one of the best Trumpter do (allegedly), so the joins on the two halves of the fuselage are a bit disappointing.

had to address them with some material called mr surfacer which is amazing stuff, it’s a liquified leveller or filler.

it will take a couple of applications to crack the problem but you can see what this stuff does. It’s like Nectar card. It’s changed my life.......

It's a bit like birds in burqas in Dubai wearing Victoria's Secret underwear mate - they know it's there.

Need to dig out my scribing tool to redo the panel lines, but the mrs surfacer has done its job with no disasters along the way.

done the tail bit not stuck down yet. That can wait til I get the fuselage primed which will hopefully be tomorrow now.

Bit of tidying up to do along the way.

Hope people don’t mind the running commentary - I thought I’d made a change from the usual which is you just see big leaps in progress from people posting builds. I’ve tried to include a few hints and tips for people if they fancy a go at modelling also.

This is 1/32nd and they are bloody massive so be warned!

All good mate, enjoying this style of build record.

Starting to look like a planey thing now. Makes a difference once the fuselage is closed up.
