Builds 1/24 scale UH-1 Bell Huey Gunship

#81
Here we go, the day has come to join the two fuselage halves together, a massive join line all the way around with some contacta fluid, not the time for the phone to ring or the postman to call.

quick with the masking tape to get a good join line pressed together.

I knew this was coming, a great big gap between the floor, rear wall and the hull side, white glue topped with mr surfacer with fill that.

the white glue is so easy to work with and find it's own smooth level, great for big gaps like this one.

the joint between the two halves of the fuselage have set hard, now time to sort those join lines.....

first by scraping the raised molten plastic where it has squished upward, using the edge of a scalpel blade. Then course to fine sandpaper.

Willard Quote of the day:
"Sir, I carry Priority Papers from Com sec intelligence two Corps!"
Kilgor. "What Papers, I haven't heard from La Drange?"
"Sir, your unit is supposed to Escort us into the Nung"
Kilgor "Well, we'll see what we can do about that, you stay out of my way until this is done Captain....Two of Diamonds, three of Spades".

the shades of OD are being left to dry to see how that merge together. Next up, some Rockets and Guns...

the UH1 construction is complete, just the final touches with the airbrush and maybe a coat of satin varnish just to lift it a bit, dead Matt always looks lifeless and unrealistic.

the glass case is huge for this, 25 inches long, the concrete like base worked for smaller models, just looks too bare for this, need some Apocalypse now stills or a map of Vietnam and Cambodia to busy it up a bit.

Looks great - can you post some close-us of the guns, I've never seen that arrangement before?

Jungle dio would be awesome - how about the scene in Apocolyse Now when the Huey lands in the village square and the Vietnamese chick blows it up?

Well, that was done in double quick time...... if only someone else could build a chopper that quick :)

I've not glued them in yet, which is ok, as I'm sure that belt for the lower gun should go over the barrel with the other belt.

with the belt repositioned
