Hello all,
A mate‘s dad recently passed away and apparently there’s boxes of double 0 railway stuff to be disposed of. I’ve not seen the stuff myself but I’m told there’s quite a lot so if anyone has any ideas I’d be grateful.
Thanks in advance.

A couple of ideas:

Limited options, really unless you know what you're selling.

Most of the dealers will offer about 25 - 30% of what the stuff is worth.

Hattons or Rails of Sheffield will offer you a standard dealer price, but I would check first if there is anything rare or collectible in there. Have a look at prices on ebay before you accept any offer.

Certain dealers -- name & shame S&J Models of Northwich -- will rip you off completely.

Better to find a local model railway club. Most do 00 gauge and might well offer you more than a dealer.

These might be worth contacting:

Unfortunately I'm a 009 modeller but we have our own internal sales team who will take stuff and sell it on behalf of the deceased's estate, but I don't know of anything similar for 00.

Hope this helps.

I am into N gauge but Hattons is the place people go to to find specific items. They have an excellent used range. Definitely worth contacting if you have a lot of stuff to sell.

Send it all to me. It’s clearly useless to most people, so I’d be happy to take it off your hands, and I’d be happy to pay for shipping to the US :)

Take a look here.

They are an auction site specialising in railway models, diecast toys and the like.
Ye gods, the prices on there seem to be around £100 per lot. It sounds like someone is sitting on a nice pile of cash.

As is key with such things, the higher values lie in the rarity, desirability and the condition of items, as well as the availability and condition of any original packaging.

A large carton filled with a random collection of playworn tat will probably not promise a comfortable retirement in the Bahamas.

As @Provost said, condition is everything and especially if you have the original boxes in good condition.

Vectis could be a good option however you don't want to spend ages to find out that the stuff is not worth anything. If you have a list feel free to PM me and I'll try to help.
